Control your Matter devices with Google Home.
Asking how to get to somewhere displays a map into which you can zoom with your fingers on the touchscreen. Using Google’s Voice Match recognition system the Home Hub can identify who is asking a question or giving a command and provide personalised answers. Ask for how your commute looks and it gives you your commute, not another member of your household’s. Ask questions and get visual, immersive answers from Google on weather, recipes, local business information and more. 3 Many Google devices will be automatically updated to support Matter.
With the Google Assistant built-in, you can use your voice to get the best of Google—Search, YouTube, Google Photos, Calendar, Maps and more—right on Google Home Hub’s display. Matter devices connect to each other locally over your smart home network using Wi-Fi or Thread, making your devices more responsive, reliable, and secure. Timers, alarms and all the usual smart assistant tools are there. On the Home Hub answers are accompanied by visual information, such as the hourly or daily weather forecast or a photo of Jeff Goldblum as it explains he is 65 years old. Weather reports are accompanied by sound effects such as birds tweeting for sunny days and rain for typical British weather.

Swipe down from the top to reveal a panel with all your Google Assistant connected smart home devices. From there you can turn on lights and adjust their brightness and colours, see cameras, adjust the temperature or do anything else from an easy to use command and control screen. There’s even a button to turn it all off, right from the screen. We consciously decided to not include a camera on Google Home Hub, so you feel comfortable placing it in the private spaces of your home, like the bedroom. On the top of the device you’ll find the Ambient EQ light sensor.

With its soft rounded corners, Google Home Hub fits naturally on any surface. My favorite places are my kitchen counter and nightstand. With four colors to choose from—Chalk, Charcoal, Aqua and Sand—it’s right for just about any room. Have your motion sensor turn on lights when you walk in the door. Google Home lets you see live feeds of your Nest cameras and doorbell from your browser, all in one view.
Expensive, custom installation smart homes have had this kind of touchscreen dashboard system for a while, but it’s been difficult to achieve with off-the-shelf kit until now. Voice control is great, but when you’re trying to do lots of things at once and see the status of devices, touchscreen buttons are better. Swipe down from the top of the display to show the smart home panel, or tap view rooms to show the complete smart home control dashboard. The home screen can display a choice of clock faces, images or photos from your Google Photos library.
